A Car Is Infinity Times Four

Description

So these are the cars I customized for the characters of my Interstate ’76 fanfic. Please download for a good look at all the details. The story revolves around a young undercover cop infiltrating a corrupt Texas police department to find out who’s behind the rush of stolen cars and weapons. After his Grandmother (his only living family member) dies in an attempt to kill him, he becomes a vigilante.

Going clockwise, starting top left:
The bad guy mobile – a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS driven by ‘lieutenant’ Samuel S. Klein, code name Avalanche. Just like Klein himself, this car is not a real police car, it’s his personal death machine dressed up to look like one. It has a range of illegal engine modifications, a 30 mm auto cannon turret on top, a Firerite unguided missile pod on the left rear fender (forward facing), a 20 mm auto cannon on the right rear fender (facing backwards) and a mine dropper in the trunk. This car a high speed tank. Fast, armored, heavily armed, but not very agile. In-game it’s know as a Courcheval Courchelle.

The main good guy‘s ride – a 1972 Dodge Challenger, bought second hand and completely customized by Jimmy ‘Ripper’ Goodspeed. He drove it out of his Granny’s burning garage when Klein attacked the house, trying to kill Jimmy. It sports a turret version of a 7.62 mm minigun on top, a DrRadar missile launcher on the front left fender, .50 cal machine gun on the right rear fender (forward facing) and a mine dropper in the back. Like Klein’s Chevelle, this car is big and bad, but has more emphasis on handling. In-game it’s known as a Dover Rampage.
In my other Interstate 76 fanfic ‘Bullseye’, Jimmy’s drives a 1971 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (one of my all time favorite cars), but that car isn’t part of the Interstate ’76 or ’82 games. There was a 1970 Pontiac GTO ‘The Judge’ in Interstate 76 Nitro Riders, also very cool, but it wasn’t available in the 3D warehouse. So I used another of my favorite muscle cars, the Challenger.

During his investigations, Jimmy meets a young British woman named Karen Wright. She is an auto-vigilante with the code name Wildbird. She despises American cars, especially the build for straight line acceleration muscle cars. She finally able to lay her hands on a 1969 Mini (all the while complaining about its left hand steering wheel). Though weakly armored, she quickly turned it into a mobile gun platform to zip around, dodging anything the Creeper throw at her. It carries a massive 25 mm auto cannon turret and an Oil dropper in the trunk. In-game it’s know as a Lansell 1200cc.

Funny thing was that the Mini was only shipped with the non-US version of the game (even though the game still takes place in the US). Much to my delight, I found out that the Mini really was sold in the US for a limited time, fitting perfectly with the Interstate 76 timeline. Later in the story, Wildbird would upgrade to a Jaguar E-type.

And finally there’s Tube Snake’s Cherry Chariot – a 1970 Dodge pick up. Maybe not the most obvious choice for automotive combat, but the man calling himself Tube Snake has his own set of rules to play by. If Klein’s Chevelle is a high-speed tank of Death, then Tube Snake’s Cherry Chariot is a Rolling Fortress of Destruction. It’s heavily armored, heavily armed, it has a complete workshop in the back (as well as a vibrating queen-sized bed with mirrors) and the powerplant is an unholy union of a V10 and every performance boosting modification know to man. All this makes this fully loaded pick up truck more then a match for anything creeping around the South-West, albeit at the cost of handling and lot’s and lot’s of maintenance.
The armament consists of a Napalm hose turret, Cherub missile launcher, a .30 cal machine gun on the left rear fender and a .50 cal machine gun on the right rear fender. Other ‘modifications’ are a 14 gauge shotgun on the cabin, fuzzy dice, a rocking Hula girl on the dash and a bumpersticker with “I Only Brake If There Are Witnesses”.

Oh yeah, the title of the image is a nod to one of Taurus’ poems. It goes:

It's a high pitched sound
Hot rubber eternally pressing against a blackened pavement
A wheel is forever
A car is infinity times four

Man, I love this game…

Since I enjoy camping, I would choose the pickup truck with the pickup camper in it's box.
